Königswinter is surrounded by legends and history. The spirit of Rhine romanticism, which turned the Rhine Valley into a major tourist destination in the mid-19th century, can still be felt in many places today.
The winding historic old town and the inviting Rhine promenade with numerous restaurants invite visitors to stroll and relax. Popular destinations such as Petersberg, once the location where state guests of the Federal Republic of Germany were received, the Heisterbach monastery ruins or Drachenburg Castle tell stories of the town’s diverse history. The Siebengebirge nature reserve offers outstanding hiking opportunities and a chance to escape everyday life.
At the same time, the town of around 42,000 residents provides excellent infrastructure: daycare centres, schools, medical services, shopping facilities, gastronomy, art and culture – everything is available. Transport connections are also excellent. Located in the Rhine valley, Königswinter has direct access via the B42 federal road to nearby Bonn and via the A59 airport motorway to Cologne. The higher areas of the city also provide access to the A3 motorway.
Even without a car you remain mobile thanks to two railway stations, light rail line 66, various bus routes and two Rhine ferries connecting to Bonn. The European long-distance cycling route EuroVelo 15 – the Rhine cycle route – also passes through Königswinter.
