Freiburg im Breisgau is a city in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg in the Black Forest. It is the fourth largest city in the state after Stuttgart, Mannheim and Karlsruhe. The French border is around 20 km away and the Swiss border around 60 km away.

In general, the infrastructure is very good and there are a variety of shopping opportunities, schools, kindergartens, cultural offerings and social facilities. There are also several colleges and a university. In terms of transport, the city is well connected.

The development boundary runs to the northwest.
