Location and surroundings
Maintal is the second largest town in the Main-Kinzig district and sits right on the Main River, between Frankfurt and Hanau. Located in the heart of the vibrant Rhine-Main metropolitan region, the town was officially formed in 1974 and includes four districts.
Roughly 40,000 residents currently call Maintal home, spread across the lively districts of Dörnigheim and Bischofsheim, the charming timber-framed Hochstadt, and the nature-adjacent Wachenbuchen.
Thanks to its blend of urban and natural elements, Maintal is an appealing place to live. Great public transport connections, strong motorway access, proximity to Frankfurt airport and the city’s trade fair centre all make Maintal an ideal base for work and leisure.
The town offers a wide range of childcare and schools, from primary to secondary level. It is also home to the Federal College for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology and the European Academy for HVAC studies.
There’s a rich cultural and social scene here too, with around 180 clubs catering to every interest and age group. Maintalbad is a local highlight, combining indoor and outdoor swimming pools with activities like aqua fitness, beach volleyball, a wide slide, and a mini football pitch.
Doctors, pharmacies, supermarkets and plenty of independent shops ensure day-to-day needs are covered, while restaurants and inns offer local fare and cosy spots to relax.
