Municipality of Treia

Macro location

Treia lies on federal road 201 between Husum and Schleswig on the Treene river, whose earlier name “Trae-Aa” (wood stream) likely gave rise to the place name. A high proportion of woodland still shapes the image of the municipality, which has over 1,500 inhabitants. The preferred location—especially proximity to North and Baltic Sea—makes Treia an ideal starting point for tours in northern Schleswig-Holstein and into southern Denmark. The Treene itself is known far beyond the region as a paradise for anglers and paddlers. Many cycling and walking paths complement the tourist offer. Strong local craft, trade, and commercial firms have driven development while Treia has preserved its village character. People still greet each other with a “Moin.”

The town has a dermatologist, a gynecologist, and a dentist. A pharmacy is available for prescriptions. The regionally known country inn Osterkrug, a grocery market, a bakery, a bistro, a self-service Sparkasse branch, a large DIY store, and various other businesses complement local infrastructure.

Rail:

Another station is about 12 minutes by car in Jübek, with regional trains to Husum, Kiel, Hamburg, and Flensburg.
