Things are happening in Bahrenfeld. Quite a lot, to be exact. S-Bahn station Diebsteich is being optimised and is moving Hamburg's hub to the west and the expansion of the A7 will provide more space and less noise. How does it work? With good ideas and a lot of green.
Normally, optimal transport links mean less-than-optimal noise levels, less green spaces and more stress. Bahrenfeld shows that this can be different. And not with one but two showcase projects. The results: long-distance traffic will be relocated to Diebsteich, not only creating open and green spaces but also making Bahrenfeld better connected in terms of local and long-distance traffic. The A7 motorway will also be upgraded to the latest standards. Thanks to a complex concept involving low-noise asphalt, sound-insulating barriers and tunnels, a restoration of the senses and a better quality of life are ensured. And not just for motorists. Because the A7 is to be provided with a concrete ceiling, also known as the Hamburger Lid. This protects against noise and is allows for green areas, parks and allotments to be developed on top. The districts of Bahrenfeld and Altona will merge together thanks to this enclosure, creating new, safe paths for pedestrians and cyclists and wildlife. Bahrenfeld is many steps ahead in terms of progressive development and modern life-quality.
