Location & Surroundings

Oberndorf near Salzburg is located around 20 kilometers north of the city of Salzburg and has gained international fame as the town of “Silent Night.” Nestled in the gentle hills of the Alpine foothills, this municipality of 5,850 residents lies on the right bank of the Salzach River, directly across from the Bavarian border town of Laufen – connected by a historic bridge and the European footbridge.

The idyllic landscape, rich cultural offerings, and excellent accessibility make Oberndorf a sought-after recreational destination of regional significance – a place to slow down and enjoy life.

Oberndorf is also a lively town with many family-friendly leisure options. Cycling enthusiasts will find endless routes – especially along the scenic Salzach river trail. For relaxation, take a walk to the pilgrimage church Maria Bühel or follow the two-town circular route “Oberndorf–Laufen.” Don’t miss visiting the Silent Night Chapel and Museum – must-sees for all Oberndorf visitors.
