According to historical sources, Ilversgehofen was initially the court settlement of a Franconian clan association in the alluvial plain of the narrow Gera, which bore the name Eilbertsgehoven, which means "the courts of Eilbert". In 1304 it was finally owned by Erfurt as Ratsdorf. With the onset of industrialization, the district developed into an important economic center. In 1911 it was incorporated into Erfurt.
